While things went better than he'd thought they might, it still wasn't an ideal situation: the Guard headquarters would need repairs, they'd need to figure out what to do with Sato, and most importantly, try to determine how to deal with it should something like this happen again. Nick might be an optimistic man most days, but he's not putting his bets on this one.
For now, he just wants to check in on Rey. She'd gone out before him that morning, determined to take care of Sato's invisible help. Whatever that entailed couldn't be good: assuming she'd dealt with it -- and the fires he'd seen were an indication that she had -- the man still managed to be trouble all by himself. He might try again -- he might be more prepared next time, have more folks on his side.
All that fighting, and for what? For a deal with Rage? To start a war? Or maybe just to alleviate his boredom? No explanation is an acceptable one, not when lives might be on the line, whether they're the Guard's, his family's, or Nick's own.
