[Complicated enough for Firo, probably.

[Rey falls quiet for a moment, uncertain whether or not the answer is something he even needs to know. It's definitely one that she wishes she could bury in a lock and never have to look at again, but that's been ripped open plenty of times lately.]

Someone who doesn't matter anymore because he's dead. But, he did it because he... He thought he "loved" her. Wanted to take her away from that place. Chances were he wanted my, um... my mother out of the way.

[For obvious reasons. Undine likely would never have approved of his affections towards Fiona.]

He 'loved' her, so he made her off her mom? What a creep.

[Firo doesn't even know the half of it.]

Never said that his logic was very sound.

[Quite the opposite, in fact.]

[Firo hopes it was slow and painful.]

Well, he is very much dead, if that's what you're wondering. Though, considering that this was almost a century ago, he'd be dead either way.

That, and how painful it was. But I guess that's all that matters in the end.

I won't ask more if you don't wanna talk about it.

It's fine. It was a long time ago. Doesn't matter anymore.

[At least, that's what she keeps telling herself. Perhaps one day it'll be true.]

[Yeah, Firo knows that feeling. Even if he doubts such a thing wouldn't matter... he's sure the best thing to do now is to drop it, if she's talking like that.]

[She pauses, biting her lower lip for a moment.]

And, um. Thank you. For what you tried to do for... her. [And Rey, in a sense.]

Huh? Come on, that's what anybody'd do if they saw some lady in a box. Anyway, it's not like it actually changed anything.

[Or, well, what anybody should do. Firo knows very well that many people--most--don't do the right thing. He's not going to let that get in the way of him trying to wiggle out of the thanks, though. Gratitude is awkward.]

Well, not just anyone is that kind.

[Though she can sense that Firo is trying to deflect her appreciation.]

Even though it didn't change anything, she is still a part of me. I know that, ah. Those things you said... It would've meant a lot to her. [And, in a way, it does to Rey as well.]

Oh. Well, uh...

...You know, I gotta thank you too. You did something for me in those dreams. Well, the younger me, I guess.

[circumitus]

Ah.

[She pauses, staring at her phone for a moment.]

I... wasn't sure if you even remembered that.

[foundafamily]

Well, that was all kinda embarrassing to me, so I did think about just forgettin' about it completely.

But that stuff you said...

[...Was touching? Nice? Surprising?

He can't just admit all that.]

You didn't have to say all that.

And you didn't have to help some woman in a box, but you did it anyway.

[It isn't just about what Firo did back then, either -- but some of the things he said to her, too. They were just as meaningful. Not many people, let alone someone who doesn't even know her that well, would've extended such a kindness.]

That woman in a box hadn't just tried to rob me.

No offense, but you weren't exactly that much of a threat at the time.

[Plus she was lucid enough to know that she was dreaming, so she wasn't even worried about that.]

[Sarcasm. He's still slightly offended even if he knows it's the truth.]

It's not just that. A lotta people, well... People'd just drop you from the building anyway just 'cause you annoyed 'em, not because you were a threat.

[She scoffs.] Dropping some kid off a building would've been pretty extreme, wouldn't it?

[Not that extreme isn't her style or anything.]

I'm not the sort of person who'd do that. At least, not anymore. [So that's comforting, right?]

That depends on who you ask. Not that I disagree with you.

Well, then. Also good to know that you're one of the ones who finds tossing children off rooftops to be morally objectionable. Even if they are a petty harmonica-thieving... thief.

Hey, if I'd known it was just some harmonica, I wouldn't've stolen it in the first place. I only stole good stuff. What was so important about that thing anyway?

It was my brother's, I think. [It sure looked like his, anyway.] He played... um, plays it. He's quite good.

[foundafamily]

Oh yeah? I guess then it is important.

Is he in a band or something?

[circumitus]

No, nothing like that. He just taught himself how to play. Believe it had something to do with this old Wild West movie or something.
