NOTE: As of 12/2016, Rey has adopted the alias "Fiona Stransky" when working with the Guard. Something to keep in mind, as Rey maintains a low profile with her involvement in the group. Other than what is mentioned in the Guard records, there is no trace of a "Fiona" identified on the network.
I have known her since the day she was dragged here. The armoury's offerings were relics to her, and she wished to know how they were used in warfare. None were better suited to the task than me. When she was transforming into a wendigo, she asked that I mercy kill her. After that we became friends.
[Henry gives a shrug of his shoulders to suggest that there wasn't really a single moment when it happened; it was the culmination of a myriad of shared experiences.]
Rely upon and keep the company of another for long enough and they grow dear to you. We have been through much together. I trust her as I trust no other.
[Henry gives Rey a half-smile, then downs the rest of his ale. A stray thought nags at the back of his mind: what does it mean that Maketh has been distant in recent months and regards him as a source of guilt?
[Before Rey is able to ask Henry if he'd like a refill on his drink, his question catches her off guard. She blinks at him a moment.]
Well, um... [She raises a brow at the ceiling.] Guess we met here, actually. Before it was... this, and before Delight was revived.
[Huh. Imagine that.]
We shared a few drinks. Talked. Ah. One time, after being sent home, was brought back in a bad way. Got seriously hurt by someone in my world. Maketh watched over me for a bit, during the healing process.
[Pause.] It was rocky sometimes, because of... how she can be. Wanted her to try to be better. Wanted to help.
[Something that they both seem to have in common. They want to be better people. It doesn't always work out, but that's why they have people to keep them grounded. Rey has Nick, and it looks like Maketh as Henry.]
It's good, that she's had someone like you around. [Rey can't help but admit that. Henry seems like good people.]
[Henry nods as he listens, smiling slightly. He then pushes a hand through his hair, dipping his head.]
At present she avoids me when she knows that I will like not her choices, where once we confronted them together. These days she has Hux to confirm that the Empire's ways are correct. But what cares so evil a cur for the staining of her soul?
[He shakes his head.]
She fails to see the goodness in herself. I would not see that become her undoing. 'Tis a relief that she spends her time with you, and not merely conspiring with Hux.
[Rey frowns. She's heard a bit of Hux from Nick; seen him on the network. Hardly the sort of crowd that she would want Maketh in. And while Rey is one to believe in choice, she's known Maketh long enough to see that the woman doesn't always make the best decisions for herself.]
Thanks, for bringing this up. [Rey sighs, scratching her forehead in thought.] She's told me before, how the Empire killed her. In the end of all this, there's nothing for her to return to. We're sent home, she dies. The synthetics win, kill the gods, she dies.
[Well, this sure is a better note to leave on than a threat. Rey takes his empty glass, setting it aside for cleaning later as Henry withdraws from his seat.]
All right. Guess this means we'll be in contact more?
[Pff. This must be what it's like to meet your girlfriend's family.]
no subject
Lucky you. [She takes a drink, eyes on Henry over the brim of the glass.] So how did you and Maketh come to be like-family?
[Because she's hazarding a guess that they don't even share the same world, let alone the same gene pool.]
no subject

That is... a lot like how things have gotten between me and Nick.
[Who she is sure Henry knows, given Nick's status in the Guard.]
It's good to have someone like that.

He pushes it away.]
What of you and Maketh?

[She lowers her arms over the bartop.]
Won't let them kill her again.

A moment later, he takes a step back and says:]
I ought to be off.
[He feels like all that needs to said has been said, and he's satisfied they're on the same page.]
