Ah, well, it... didn't seem like everyone was bidding on people they already knew. Was bid on by some guy even though we've never spoken before, so...

[Right. It'd probably be even more awkward if she didn't introduce herself in return.]

Name's Rey. Just... thought it sounded interesting. Battle-axes and cooking and whatnot.

It's very nice to meet you, Miss Rey. I'm glad you thought I was interesting! [A pause.] To tell the truth, I'm more of a gardener than a cook, but I've really been trying to improve at the later. Do you cook at all?

[She's seen the farms now, but if people have their own personal gardens, that's an interesting tidbit to file away in her brain.]

But, um. No, am not much of a cook. Not for anything complicated, anyway. Have a brother who's more into that stuff, though.

I've got a little plot of land with all the other greenery! It's not much, just something I can work on as a hobby. I find it very relaxing. [Which is nice, right now.]

You know, I think including any fresh home-grown vegetables really brings up the quality of the dish. But I'm an amateur, myself, so perhaps I'm just making myself believe it? Through, er, the placebo effect or something?

Don't have the most refined palate, if it's any consolation. Will eat just about anything that's edible.

[Literally. Anything. Rey is the opposite of a picky eater and fresh food of any kind sounds like heaven to her.]

Aha, well, I'm certain you should be giving yourself more credit than that! [She says, with a sweet smile.]

Would you like to work with me in the garden, then, or just enjoy the fruits of my labor? Or, the veggies of my labor, to be more accurate.

Getting dirty isn't exactly a traditional date, so I wouldn't blame you if you wanted to just have dinner together!

[With the promise of a meal, Rey perks up.] Hey, am not afraid to get dirty. Can't speak from much experience but dinners sound very traditional.

[Better than anything she could come up with on the fly, anyway. Despite being almost a century old, she's pretty new at this.]

Besides, have heard things taste better when you grow and make it yourself. That right?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I certainly think that they do!

[A smile, she coyly rocks back and forth from heel to toe.] So then, ah, shall it be a date, Miss Rey?

[Oh goody did she do it? Did she actually help set up a date?! A nervous laugh barks out.]

If that's what dates are, then that's what a date shall be. [Wow that phrasing doesn't sound like her at all, does it?] Don't... really have any expectations for anything more.

[It didn't seem like there was much pressure for them to do things some might not be comfortable with, and that's okay. Right?]

[There's a pause.] W-well, it's what a date can be, if you want it to be.

Have you not ever gone on a date before?

[She seems slightly older, so that's a little surprising.]

Nnn... Not really?

[She's definitely older. Much older than she looks, even -- and that's already a rough estimate of 20/30-something by appearance alone.]

Well. Never really had time for it before, so...

[Oh dear.

Haru coughs, for a moment, clearing her throat to buy her time to think.] That shouldn't, um, be so bad then!

I haven't gone on many myself, so as long as that doesn't bother you, I don't have a problem with anyone else's lack of experience!

What do people usually do for dates? [She must know. For science.]

Hmm... go to places together, have a meal, maybe see something entertaining?

Do you have any hobbies? Anywhere you like to go, or movies or other shows you like to see?

Going camping more these days. Meant to check out one of the arcades around here sometime, too. Also see what type of live theater they might have -- used to opera music, but... am open to anything else.

[ This is her second bid. What is going on. People were never the type to bid over her in the past -- really, they just couldn't wait to get rid of her. ]

I'm not uncomfortable, really! [ which is only a small lie. she's acclimating to the situation pretty quickly. ] It's just... We've only trained together once before. I wish I had the chroma to spare so generously.

[She pauses, remembering what she had done to build up her Chroma reserves recently and tries not to turn beet red.]

Don't... Don't worry about that. Should have the funds to spare for you. [It's more than Rey's used to having, anyway.] At least... Um, not sure how these things are supposed to work. Am just winging it, honestly.

I'm sure this isn't something that comes naturally to people. That's why it's a special event, right? You can wing it, and I'll play it by ear.

[Oh fuck, did she just-- are those real? They look like real ears. Real and adorable. Rey makes a snorting sound as she covers her mouth.]
