NOTE: As of 12/2016, Rey has adopted the alias "Fiona Stransky" when working with the Guard. Something to keep in mind, as Rey maintains a low profile with her involvement in the group. Other than what is mentioned in the Guard records, there is no trace of a "Fiona" identified on the network.
[She could be making it up to deflect suspicion, but Firo doesn't really believe that. Her words make sense--fights like the ones he's been seeing aren't unusual, but this many? That's not normal. Not to mention that, aside from the monsters, Hadriel's seemed to him to be unusually peaceful before--this makes it an even bigger red flag.]
That's how it seems. Am with someone who experienced the same thing right now.
[She sighs.]
Yes. Handled. It isn't easy, but it's possible to stop feeling anything. Should be enough. [Far as she's concerned, it's a better solution than the alternatives .]
...So that girl can stop trying to send people on a punching spree. Am not going to kill her.
Makes sense. If you can keep that up until it's over, then...
[He almost feels like he should thank her, and that's a funny thought. Whatever the motivation, he can't forget how rattled she left the kid. All the same, whenever he shut off his emotions it was always for selfish reasons.]
...then that's good. Thanks.
[He laughs.]
Don't take it personally, but I'm not about to tell her to stop. Besides, it could be a lot worse.
[The more she thinks about it, the more she intends to keep up with it even after all of this is over and done with. It would be advantageous for everyone in the city if she did. Actually voicing her intentions to other people is another story, however.]
Well, the least you could do is let her know that she isn't in any danger. At least, am not going to be forced by anyone to take her life. Am done doing that sort of thing.
[She pauses. Rather than lingering on that messed up detail:] On second thought, it's probably good that she stays alert. Don't know if there are multiple targets some of us has to kill. Not yet.
[Firo knows a lot of people who'd kill a kid even if they weren't forced to. Heck, some--like maybe Ladd or that nameless creep from Alcatraz--would welcome the opportunity. The fact that she not only doesn't use it as an excuse but willingly fights it earns her some points with him.
His answer, then, isn't curt but heartfelt.]
Good. Don't know if she'll believe me, but I'll try.
Shit, I hope not. There anything else you've figured out about this? How to tell who's gonna go after who? Why?
[It isn't like Rey has never killed children before. She's pretty sure she's killed a lot of kids when she went nuclear that one time, under certain special circumstances, even if it was unintentional. But she's since committed to the fact that she's not that person anymore. So, no murdering teenagers in cold blood for Rey.]
That's probably for the best. Better for her to be cautious and alive than careless and dead.
If there is a way to tell, then a pattern hasn't presented itself yet. As for why... [She scoffs.] Take a wild guess.
[It's better for everybody like that. The method Rey's using may be reliable, but Firo finds it better not to trust in the first place. Nothing personal.]
no subject
So it was you.
[He sighs. Damn it, what's going on?]
Okay, so then what did you do? Because she was pretty damn freaked out.
no subject
[She can learn to feel bad about it after all of this is over. Maybe even apologize to the girl when she can, if Miriam will be having it.]
Am not the only one afflicted. There are others being forced to kill someone, or they want to... a specific target.
Have the anger handled, so no worries. Won't be going after her. Can't say the same for others in this city, though.

[He tsks.]
Great. I hope they're all gettin' a kick outta this.
[And he's sure they are.]
no subject
Don't do that. You'll only be giving the actual Hope guy more ammunition to work with.
[Clearly everyone should be more like Rey and just not give a shit at all.]
no subject
[Or maybe this is Rey not getting jokes again.]
I ho--maybe he'll choke on it.
no subject
[Le shrug.
[She pauses a moment.] You haven't noticed anything different about yourself recently, have you? Any uncontrollable anger? Just curious.
[Still trying to discern a pattern here.]
no subject
Nothing yet. Don't want to kill anybody any more than I normally do--but I don't have a beef with anybody here, either.
no subject
no subject
I'm probably not gonna go out lookin' for people to test it out.
no subject
no subject
[General 'you,' not Rey personally. Firo doesn't really consider himself a part of the community, so there's no 'we' for now.]
no subject
[Rey doubts she needs to explain to Firo why.]
no subject
[It's better for everybody like that. The method Rey's using may be reliable, but Firo finds it better not to trust in the first place. Nothing personal.]
no subject
[Hell, Rey doesn't even trust herself -- she doesn't blame Firo at all.]
no subject
[He's about to hang up but pauses. She's really not a bad sort...]
Good luck out there.
no subject
[Feeling like there isn't much left to be said, she disconnects.]
