NOTE: As of 12/2016, Rey has adopted the alias "Fiona Stransky" when working with the Guard. Something to keep in mind, as Rey maintains a low profile with her involvement in the group. Other than what is mentioned in the Guard records, there is no trace of a "Fiona" identified on the network.
I--enjoyed having dinner with you, Rey. I liked going dancing. And I am -- here. I'm not -- used to this sort of thing. I admit I may not be very good at it.
[Funny. Bianca wasn't too long ago, the memory of their last conversation hardly even a distant one. And yet, for some reason, everything feels different with Maketh. Special in it's own right. Everything has a new meaning now.]
If you're sure, then so am I.
I didn't...
[She stops.] I couldn't help but wonder if it really was okay, back then. With her. That maybe things happened because... I don't know. [Shrug.] I was holding her back?
[Or maybe it went both ways, and Rey just can't see that.]
Guess I just-- I don't want to hold anyone back. Because of me. [Because of how she is, and because of her experiences.]
[In most cases when Rey had been resigned to giving up, she still fought. She's been fighting her whole life, since the day she was "born" -- she doesn't know how not to.]
Well, you've always been pretty damned persistent, yourself.
[It's not entirely what Maketh meant, but she smiles nonetheless. She likes this, having dinner with Rey. Speaking with her over a glass of good mead. They ought to do it more.] Good. That -- that is very good.
[Rey's mouth tightens into a thin line at Maketh's suggestion. Not because she isn't partial -- she did like spending time at the river, be it to clear her head or routine maintenance on the dam.
[But the last time she had been there, she was visiting the headstone Nick helped make for the spot he buried Undine. The memory of Undine, anyway. Rey knows that was only an after image of the woman who made her. Does it really have to matter, though? It's all the same to Rey. To Nick as well.]
I... [She pauses to think, apprehensive of letting her sullenness poison the mood.] There's a game area set on top of the Speakeasy. Casino. Firo looks after it. Some of the stuff there's pretty fun.

This? I don't understand.
no subject
[She still struggles trying to put emotions into words, even now.]
no subject
Oh. Maketh ducks her head, smiling.]
I--enjoyed having dinner with you, Rey. I liked going dancing. And I am -- here. I'm not -- used to this sort of thing. I admit I may not be very good at it.
[She lifts her head, expression serious.]
But I want to try.
no subject
[She shifts in her seat, leaning forward a little.]
I'm not expecting any grand sonnets or sweeping me off my feet. I don't think your spine would forgive you if you tried that last one, anyway.
[Because Rey is heavy as fuck.]
no subject
No, I don't think it would! But I would like to go dancing again. To make you good coffee. Would that -- would that be all right?
no subject
Of course it would. I, um. I like this.
no subject
I know it didn't -- quite work, with Bianca. I don't mind taking it slowly.
no subject
If you're sure, then so am I.
I didn't...
[She stops.] I couldn't help but wonder if it really was okay, back then. With her. That maybe things happened because... I don't know. [Shrug.] I was holding her back?
[Or maybe it went both ways, and Rey just can't see that.]
Guess I just-- I don't want to hold anyone back. Because of me. [Because of how she is, and because of her experiences.]
Sorry. I'm rambling.
no subject
You will not hold me back. I am quite certain of that.
no subject
[A futile thing to ask, really. But she trusts Maketh not to give her a bullshit answer.]
no subject
[She meets Rey's eyes.]
I am done -- playing a role. I want to be myself. Even if that self occasionally finds you frustrating.
[She gives Rey a little smile.]
You are a very stubborn woman.
no subject
I'd apologize, but I'm not really sorry because that's the one reason why I'm still alive. Too stubborn to die -- or stay dead, for that matter.
[It's a better reason than living because others have willed it.]
no subject
Quite true. I complain, but I do admire that as well.
[Rey doesn't give up. She grumbles sometimes and digs in her heels, but she endures. There's something to be said for that.]
no subject
Well, you've always been pretty damned persistent, yourself.
[Which she means in the nicest way possible!]
no subject
I have worked very hard to get what I have.
[Not all of it was worth keeping. She knows that now. But still she fought.]
But. I am trying not to fight all the time.
no subject
Well, that's a relief. Don't think I like fighting you that much.
[It's a wry but sincere comment.]
no subject
[And a compliment. Maketh tucks a strand of hair behind her ear, watching Rey.]
We -- we can do this more often, can't we? Have dinner. I -- would like that very much.
no subject
[Most people wouldn't think to go to Rey for pearls of wisdom, but she has them. Sometimes.
[She almost balks at Maketh's question.] Yes, of course. I'd pick dinner over arguing any day.
no subject
no subject
There anything you want to do after this? Our options are limited, otherwise I'd take you to a movie or something.
no subject
We could sit by the water. I like listening to it, sometime. Though I know it's not very interesting.
[She drops her eyes briefly.]
Was there something you wanted to do?
no subject
[But the last time she had been there, she was visiting the headstone Nick helped make for the spot he buried Undine. The memory of Undine, anyway. Rey knows that was only an after image of the woman who made her. Does it really have to matter, though? It's all the same to Rey. To Nick as well.]

no subject
[It's asked with genuine curiosity.]
I'm more partial to chess, myself, but I've been told my skill is passable.
no subject
[Most games was about the only thing he could kick her ass on.]
no subject
Ah, well. We shall have to test that, then.
[She's quiet for a moment.]
I would have liked to have known him. Your brother.
