NOTE: As of 12/2016, Rey has adopted the alias "Fiona Stransky" when working with the Guard. Something to keep in mind, as Rey maintains a low profile with her involvement in the group. Other than what is mentioned in the Guard records, there is no trace of a "Fiona" identified on the network.
It is a creature, Miss Rey. From my world. It— hn, a moment.
[He turns on the video and peeks the camera over the hedge he's hiding behind to reveal the kalugra. It is indeed wandering around his garden, though not particularly disturbing anything just yet as it meanders with its back to the camera. Still, if its height compared to the pots and the cottage is any indication, this monster is closer in size to a hippo than a bear, despite its appearance.]
[Rey just stares at her screen, trying to parse out what she is seeing.]
What, is that some sort of sabertooth wolverine-badger-bear thing?
[Sigh.] ...Don't answer that.
[Pause.]
All right, heading over there now. There anything special about it that you know of? [You can never be too sure with those weird magical fairyland mammals. Rey's seen enough talking animals and monsters that showed up here to know that teeth and claws aren't the most dangerous things to watch out for.]
Thank you thank you thank you, Miss Rey. I know this is terribly sudden, but I assume the Door must have oh shh shh shhhhh.
[The kalugra heard him, apparently; its lumbering steps grow heavier as it draws near, its massive snout sniffing the paw plants only a short distance from his hiding spot. After another solid minute of silence and nervous jittering from Carlisle, he peers over the hedge to see it has moved away once more. He lets out a sigh of relief as he slides heavier into the shrub, as though it would better conceal him. Significantly shakier, he continues, finally getting around to answering her question.]
Th-th-they are said to have a slightly hypnotic ef- effect when their gaze is met, but I couldn't say how v- valid that information is. And- and given your resistance to my own compulsions, perhaps you w- won't be affected if it is true.
[While Rey can't say that she would be immune to hypnosis the same way she is towards Carlisle's compulsions, her self-control is strong enough that she can still hold her own better than most. It isn't foolproof, but she would never know unless she decides to put it to the test.]
Guess we won't know until we try it out.
[Pause.]
All right, hold tight. Will be there as soon as possible.
Good. I will see you shortly. Hopefully. Assuming it d- doesn't kill me.
[And Carlisle sounds as uncertain about that as he does about most things, but given he's dying anyway and this might be his one and only chance to get a hold of such materials from a live specimen, he almost sounds... excited about the prospect. Eager, even, granted the help he needs arrives soon.
He's still waiting around the hedges by the time Rey arrives, looking particularly colorless: his hair is completely grey, his eyes so bright that it's a wonder the kalugra didn't see them piercing the shadows. The creature itself has settled down among his frostlace, the powdery residue that covers the leaves dotting its matted fur and snout.]
You came? I mean- I mean, of course you came, but. Ah, nevermind. You see it, right?
[He asks that to be sure it's not just a hallucination conjured by the gods that only he can see now that Rey is here, but given its size, she'd have to be blind to miss it.]
["It's not going to kill you," Rey was going to say, but she just hangs up. Better to not waste time for another second if she can help it...
[Carlisle's state of shade is immediately noticed. She starts to comment, until he speaks first with the most absurd questions imaginable.
[Right. She'll just have to bring it up later.]
Sure do. [Nod.] Looks easy enough. Think it'll be edible after killing it?
[She isn't about to use "we" when she isn't going to hold Carlisle accountable for hunting anything. He looks like he has other issues to worry about, anyway.]
Edible? You're not going to eat it, are you? [And then, with less than half a second's pause—] Nevermind. Don't answer that. Yes, they're edible. Salt it well.
[His hands shake as he digs into his jacket, producing a folded sheet of paper; opening it reveals a vague drawing of the creature in the garden with a few parts marked, such as the fangs, tail, and one claw in particular.]
I need these parts intact, and- and as much fur as you can manage while it is still alive.
[Of course she's going to eat it, man. Rey shoots him her own skeptical look, but fortunately Carlisle catches up. After all, it looks like a bear as any other. So long as the meat is cooked right, it should be fine. Besides, she still doesn't trust the meat in the shops, even if they are produced by Hope these days.
[She glances over the sketch, brow raised. Everything else seems easy, but that last part gives her pause.]
Doesn't need to be alive to harvest the other parts, right?
[Because Rey isn't about to mutilate an animal alive. She might have a shady history, but she's no sadist.]
No, cisth. I'm not sure you could harvest such pieces without retaliation.
[Though given what he knows about Rey... he's certain she doesn't worry about retaliation in the slightest.]
The fur of the living beast is far greater an offering than that of the dead. And I have need of it for a very significant offering. I could even tell you abouoh it's getting away!
[Though he hisses that last part through his teeth as though the kalugra were tearing off in one direction, it's more that it's lumbering away from the garden and down toward the cliffs.]
no subject
What, is that a type of plant you're growing?
[It comes out more sarcastic than anything else. Unless there's some oversized Venus flytrap-like specimen emerging among his flowers.]
