NOTE: As of 12/2016, Rey has adopted the alias "Fiona Stransky" when working with the Guard. Something to keep in mind, as Rey maintains a low profile with her involvement in the group. Other than what is mentioned in the Guard records, there is no trace of a "Fiona" identified on the network.
I didn't mean like that. [Maketh hesitates, then reaches out to touch Rey's hand. Just a little.] I don't want that. But there might be another way, if we try.
[Any other time, with almost anyone else, Rey would hesitate to maintain contact. But she can't bring herself to let go. Doesn't want to leave Maketh in doubt of herself, or Rey for that matter.]
Well, if anything comes to mind, you'll be the first to know. Just don't want to screw it up again.
[And she means that in many ways. Rey doesn't have a decent track record for success, or knowing what people want of her.]
[Maketh nods just once. More than anyone, Rey ought to know how difficult that is for Maketh - to have faith in people. Or in herself. The latter is much more difficult.
I--enjoyed having dinner with you, Rey. I liked going dancing. And I am -- here. I'm not -- used to this sort of thing. I admit I may not be very good at it.
[Funny. Bianca wasn't too long ago, the memory of their last conversation hardly even a distant one. And yet, for some reason, everything feels different with Maketh. Special in it's own right. Everything has a new meaning now.]
If you're sure, then so am I.
I didn't...
[She stops.] I couldn't help but wonder if it really was okay, back then. With her. That maybe things happened because... I don't know. [Shrug.] I was holding her back?
[Or maybe it went both ways, and Rey just can't see that.]
Guess I just-- I don't want to hold anyone back. Because of me. [Because of how she is, and because of her experiences.]

[She turns her hand to curl her fingers over Maketh's.]
I know. I just don't know any other way.
[Doesn't mean that a way doesn't exist, though.]
no subject
Well.
Maketh ducks her head.]
We're reasonably clever people. I'm sure we can find something. Even if it is a bit unorthodox.
no subject
Well, if anything comes to mind, you'll be the first to know. Just don't want to screw it up again.
[And she means that in many ways. Rey doesn't have a decent track record for success, or knowing what people want of her.]
no subject
[Maketh lifts her head, expression serious.]
I have faith.
[It feels important to say that.]
no subject
Thank you. For having faith.
[Normally she'd advise against it, but... this is different.]
no subject
They have that in common, she thinks.]
Thank you for having dinner with me.
no subject
Anytime. Wouldn't mind having more of these. I like Nick, but you can't exactly have dinner with him like this.
[And that's no fault of his, she knows.]
no subject
No, I suppose not. Though his company is better than most. I hope he knows that.
no subject
[God knows Nick has done the same for her. Only fair to return the favor.]
no subject
[Maketh's expression is fond.]
He forgets his own value too easily, I think.
no subject
He does. I just try to make sure to remind him. Think we all can use those every now and then.
no subject
It's easy to -- think of yourself a certain way. Or at least it is easy for me. I am trying to be better. But it does not always go well.
no subject
[She takes a moment to place a hand over Maketh's arm, giving her a soft look.]
You're doing good, all right?
no subject
Today, I am doing quite well. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to talk about such dire things.
no subject
No worries. It's just, um. I want you to be okay. In general, and -- this.
[That could stand to be a little more coherent. Oh well.]
no subject
This? I don't understand.
no subject
[She still struggles trying to put emotions into words, even now.]
no subject
Oh. Maketh ducks her head, smiling.]
I--enjoyed having dinner with you, Rey. I liked going dancing. And I am -- here. I'm not -- used to this sort of thing. I admit I may not be very good at it.
[She lifts her head, expression serious.]
But I want to try.
no subject
[She shifts in her seat, leaning forward a little.]
I'm not expecting any grand sonnets or sweeping me off my feet. I don't think your spine would forgive you if you tried that last one, anyway.
[Because Rey is heavy as fuck.]
no subject
No, I don't think it would! But I would like to go dancing again. To make you good coffee. Would that -- would that be all right?
no subject
Of course it would. I, um. I like this.
no subject
I know it didn't -- quite work, with Bianca. I don't mind taking it slowly.
no subject
If you're sure, then so am I.
I didn't...
[She stops.] I couldn't help but wonder if it really was okay, back then. With her. That maybe things happened because... I don't know. [Shrug.] I was holding her back?
[Or maybe it went both ways, and Rey just can't see that.]
Guess I just-- I don't want to hold anyone back. Because of me. [Because of how she is, and because of her experiences.]
Sorry. I'm rambling.
no subject
You will not hold me back. I am quite certain of that.
